Alex, a strong-willed former Hong Kong athlete, owned nine Hong Kong swimming records. Have been retired for almost 15 years, he is still the HK record holder of the 200-meter backstroke and the 400-meter individual medley which the record was broken by him in 2000 Sydney Olympics. In 2014, he was awarded as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons in Hong Kong.
"Water" has always been a mark of success for Alex. Until 2007, a visit to Gansu with "A Drop of Life" has brought a different experience to him. Looking at how a water Cellar changed the life of residents who are short of water there. He realized that a drop of clean water could already be everything in life.
In 2018, Alex set up his own swimming school, hoping to bring out positive message through swimming: Swim With Integrity and Meaning. In welcoming his 40th birthday of the coming year, he hopes he could do something representative and meaningful. Having an indissoluble bond of water, he decided to turn this initiative into a charity by raising $4.5 million donations for providing clean water to 450,000 needy who lack water. At the same time, he would like to be a role model for the next generation, sticking to the belief, willing to take challenge, and sharing love with each other.
Water, brought him victory in the past, and brings him a strong sense of calling now.
21 years, we have built a total of 58,880water projects, bringing clean water，
to more than 1,800,000beneficiaries to light up their hopes.
Clean water is a basic resource for Hong Kong people, but it can be more precious than diamonds for 844 million people in the world. Nearly one-ninth of the world's population are required to walk for at least 30 minutes to collect water, which not only keeps children out of school and take up time that women could use to earn more, the water collected often causes fatal waterborne diseases.
“A Drop of Life” strives to ensure access to clean water and sanitation a reality for everyone since its establishment in 1998. Following the mandate of “passing our love and working for love”, A Drop of Life takes the leads to implement sustainable water projects and build water facilities in Nepal and Cambodia. We believe that it is a basic right for everyone to access clean water in order to survive. It is also the key to solve problems such as school dropout and poverty.
From “no water” to “a drop of water”
In places where water resources are scarce, through building water cellars, water dams, and community ponds, water can then be collected from rain and stream in order to solve the problems of water shortage.
In other areas, “A Drop of Life” cooperates with local experts to find out the water source and connect it to the village. The water facilities such as water well and pumps, Gravity Flow Water can then provide a convenient water supply network for residents.
From “a drop of water” to “a drop of cleans water”
In order to prevent the spread of disease through sewage, the water purification facilities are an indispensable part. “A drop of Life” is committed to helping families and schools in underdeveloped areas to build suitable water purification facilities, giving them not only “water”, but clean and healthy drinking water.
